Please join us for the closing reception of the LAB program and Artist Conversation with LAB MFA artist Andrew Horton on his exhibition Meta-Gallery in the Project Room.
Meta-gallery is a project addressing the gallery as a production site and cultural hub as well as the role of the curator within it. The Project Room will be turned into an independently functioning, hyper-paced version of an art space by the building of a free-standing, transformable temporary structure within it. Meta-gallery will function at an excessive rate, attempting to condense a high volume of programming into the approximate month of its existence. Programming will be balanced between events planned in advance and those produced on the fly; a call for proposals will be sent out and projects will be accepted to occur rapidly. Other artists or groups will be tapped by the curator/artist for short-term sub-residencies or to propose activities, such as one-day exhibitions and discussions. Participants will be encouraged to propose things they have previously felt they did not have a platform for. The pressure put on the gallery space as well as participating artists and viewers seeks to question the logic and goal of art viewing as an act of endurance.
