Locust Roundtable Chicago: Abraham Ritchie

June 8, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

ABRAHAM RITCHIE
BEYOND #ART: USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO COMMUNICATE CHICAGO’S ART OFFERINGS

During any day of the year, there is a staggering amount of art-related events going on in the city of Chicago and yet these events remain disparately distributed and unevenly communicated online. The objective of this event will be to gather together the individuals who produce content for the social media channels of various art institutions of differing scales and share how and why each uses their respective channels, with an emphasis on Twitter as a platform. Participants would include representatives from Chicago’s art museums, the university art museums, art focused non-profits, art listing organizations, and ideally Twitter itself. This round table will take the form, at times, of workshop, panel discussion, interview, and question-and-answer session–it is intended to be an open session aimed at creating a long-term online campaign that is open to use by any Chicago art organization.

Abraham Ritchie lives in Chicago and works for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago as the Social Media Manager. He received his undergraduate degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and a Master’s degree in New Arts Journalism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a former editor of ArtSlant: Chicago, Flavorpill Chicago, and his thoughts and writings on contemporary art have been featured by WTTW’s Chicago Tonight, WGN 720, the National Endowment for the Arts, and many others.
