The Miami Poetry Collective
Locust Projects Courtyard
The Miami Poetry Collective (“MPC”) will open the Poem Depot-a pop-up store that sells original poems written on manual typewriters-in the Locust Projects' courtyard.
MPC was founded by Campbell McGrath at a plastic table in front of Zeke’s Roadhouse Bar in November 2008. The group’s twenty-some members range from national prize winners to emerging poets who have never been published, to fiction writers and visual artists with a passion for language. One of the group’s principal ventures is the Poem Depot, a pop-up store that sells poems written on manual typewriters. Poem Depot has become a regular feature of Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Walk and has also appeared in conjunction with the Miami Art Museum’s JAM@MAM, Miami-Dade Public Library, Books & Books, Tigertail Productions, the Miami Book Fair, and the Margulies Collection. The MPC also publishes and distributes The Cent Journal Series: A Modern Anthology of Miami Poets, a regularly-appearing, closed-submission journal printed and assembled in one night, and an on-going, multi-voiced poem on Twitter (@mpc140). The group’s activities are produced in collaboration with the University of Wynwood (universityofwynwood.org), an arts-advocacy organization made possible by John and James L. Knight Foundation. Locust Projects @ Pulse Art Fair: Adler Guerrier
Booth P-07
Miami based artist Adler Guerrier will present an installation of new works concerned with the structure of narrative in relation notions of place and the everyday. The works will include drawings, photography and sculpture – all working in concert to reflect the complexities and poetics in drifting and exploring a place.
Guerrier’s restrained interplay between form, color and design in anchored by fearless site-specific subversions of place and time in regards to conceptions of race, class, history and culture. Often calling upon the districts of Miami, Guerrier examines the contemporary flaneur in an impending post demographic age.
Adler Guerrier was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Subsequent to studies at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida, Guerrier has exhibited at the Miami Art Museum, and in The Whitney Biennial 2008. His works can be found in public collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, NY.
Locust Projects will also present special edition artworks by: New York-based artist Kate Gilmore and Miami-based collaborative, the TM Sisters.

Members of the NYFA staff will provide a 90-minute seminar, with a 30-minute Q&A afterward. Each of New York Foundation for the Arts’ programs and services will be covered with an emphasis on NYFA Source, Fiscal Sponsorship, and the Immigrant Artists Project.
- NYFA Source
NYFA Source is the most extensive national online directory of awards, services, and programs for artists.
- Fiscal Sponsorship
Fiscal Sponsorship is a critical way for individual artists, artists' collaborative projects, and emerging arts organizations in all disciplines to apply for funding usually available only to organizations with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. The right fiscal sponsor will not only allow you to manage your project efficiently, but can actually help artists to raise more money and realize their artistic visions more fully.
- Immigrant Artists Project
Through the Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program, the bi-monthly IAP Newsletter, and other programming, the Immigrant Artist Project seeks to expand the constituency it serves by nurturing and fostering a community of empowered artists with diverse educational, cultural, and creative backgrounds.
RSVP: Please e-mail NYFA’s Elena Dubas at edubas@nyfa.org
