Artists’ Talk-September 14th@8pm

LOCUST PROJECTS is pleased to present a two-person show by K R Buxey and Ivan Toth Depena.

London-based buxey is a recent graduate of the prestigious Goldsmith M. A. program. Her videos employ pornography and performance as tools for a complicated investigation of desire, pleasure, repression and the relationship of these things to gender politics and, in her most recent work, negrophilia—A Romance, 2002, race relations.

Miami-based Ivan Toth Depena attended Pratt Institute before acquiring an M.A. in Architecture from Harvard University. He will create a video installation in the project room. Depena explores the comforts and discomforts of memory, reconnection and temporal displacement in works that employ suburban architectural motifs. Depena understands the individual architectural unit as a surrogate for the self and its absent body.

This show will be accompanied by a lecture, Body Pleasures: Self-Gratification and the Body in New Media, in which both buxey and Depena will participate, as well as Lorie Mertes, Associate Curator at the Miami Art Museum, and Fredric Snitzer, New World School of the Arts Professor and Director of Fredric Snitzer Gallery. This event will be held at Locust Projects on September 14th at 8pm.
