10: Roberto
Behar + Rosario Marquadt
December 16, 2000- January
15, 2001
Locust Projects is pleased to present "December
16, 2000," a new installation by Miami Beach based
artists Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt.
The work of Rosario and Roberto travels from painting
to the city and stretches and diffuses the boundaries
of architecture and the visual arts. In their case,
painting, installations and urban interventions are
but three different expressions of the same idea: an
idea that is both dream and obstinate reality. Their
works propose encounters of stories and spaces, which
alternate between the private and the public, the intimate
and the monumental, the quotidian and the fantastic.
Perhaps because they live in Miami, a city where almost
everyone comes from somewhere else, their works elaborate
upon a unique equilibrium between belonging and strangeness.
In this new installation R & R take us in
a personal journey at the same time familiar and unknown
and propose "December 16, 2000" as a shared
experience to be remembered, an unfinished poem of departures
and arrivals, of abandonment and renewal
or a
metaphor that performs as social sculpture and mirrors
conditions of contemporary life.
The work of R & R Studios has been exhibited in
the United States, Latin America, France, Belgium and
Italy. Appendix, Art Nexus, Art in America, Casabella,
Metropolis, The New City, and other publications in
Europe and the Americas have featured their work. They
have been visiting artists at Getty Research Center
and in 1998 received a fellowship from the American
Academy in Rome.
Most notable among R & R urban interventions
are the internationally recognized 45' high sculpture
"M ", in downtown Miami as well as the recently
completed "Open Air Museum", and "The
Opened House", which together with "The Living
Room" a 42' high urban intervention to be concluded
in January 2001 are all located in the Miami Design
District. R and R current projects include a painting
series on the Life, Passion and Death of a Woman, an
installation in Paris and an urban intervention in Miami
Beach.
