As part of her time in the R+D / Mobile Studio Jamilah Sabur will be hosting a series of public programs. Join us May 23 at 7 pm for a screening of dana washington’s UNDER BONE. UNDER BONE is a narrated experimental-drama featuring ethereal vignettes linked by a woman's devotion, grief and ancestral evocation, as she traverses stories beneath her rib cage.

dana washington (b. 1985) explores existence, agency and the imagination through film, portraiture, text, and narration. washington examines personal history, fiction, and memory, as well as the condition of Black and queer persons, centering on representation, oppression, healing, and futurity.

In 2016, washington earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from California State University, Long Beach, and continues her practice and research in the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of California, San Diego, for which she is a recipient of the Strategic Enhancement of Excellence through Diversity Fellowship.

Her video and film works have been selected for the Toronto Film Festival, Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival, Black Radical Imagination Showcase, Filmforum @ MOCA Los Angeles: The Familiar Unknown, and the College Art Association Conference.

Locust Projects presents Saint Cities a research project by Jamilah Sabur. For this project, Sabur has selected a team of students she has recently spent time with during her residency at Crisp Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College to join her in designing a collaborative project together. The only objective is that it must exist simultaneously across 4 Saint Cities: St. Augustine, San Diego, São Paulo, and Saint-Michel (Montreal). Sabur will occupy the R + D space May 12 – May 31 displaying the research gathered with the students. Recent works by the students will be presented in a salon-style in the R+D / Mobile Studio for the duration of her stay on site.
