Big Listening, Deep Cypress. Somewhere deep in the Greater Everglades, where the evidence of life abounds, susurrant pathways of joy await us. Join Rev. Houston R. Cypress (Otter Clan) for a deep listening ramble through diverse plant communities of the Big Cypress National Preserve, starting from the Oasis Visitor Center. Share your insights with the circle. Embrace new relatives. Bring shoes to get muddy, your own water, light snacks, and a hat.

Saturday, September 4, 2021. 10am-1pm. Meet at Locust Projects where a bus will depart promptly at 9am and return around 2pm. Or join us in Big Cypress at 10am. Oasis Visitor Center / 52105 Tamiami Trail East / Ochopee, FL 34141.

A dis/orientation activity will start us off, to help us disconnect from the built environment and open us up to the natural world. This opening will include personal introductions and commentary from a National Park Ranger. Slow pace walking through mostly flat terrain. Some uneven spots include stepping up and down on piles of dirt. This hike will include walking through areas that are tight with bushes. Depending on the weather and the season, the trail could be muddy. The overall mood will be contemplative. Conversations and sharing will be welcome throughout the event. At the halfway point, guests will be invited to meditate, or sit in silence, for a deep listening activity that may include some suggestions or guided meditation. After the listening, or meditation, guests will be invited to share their insights or experiences.
